Antiche Mostarderie

Mustum Ardens of the Gonzaga

The term "Mustard Fruit" derives from the Latin Mustum Ardens, a spicy fruit-based preparation using crushed mustard seeds.
The origin of mustard fruit can be traced back to 1300, a luxury product served at the banquets of the Gonzaga family noblemen. Its popular use, thanks to the greater availability of sugar and mustard, spread as of 1600 among the farming families of northern Italy and, specifically, in the area of Mantua.

Today Antiche Mostarderie is offering this excellent traditional product exalting its taste with new high-level culinary combinations.
Not only meats and cold cuts but also fish dishes, cheeses and puddings that, thanks to their match with Antiche Mostarderie mustard fruit, acquire a unique value for the most refined gourmets.
